Louis Vuitton presented Time Capsule, a journey through the history of the Maison that revisited its landmark innovations.

To mark the fortieth anniversary of Louis Vuitton in Germany, Berlin was the first European destination to host Time Capsule, an exhibition that took place in the quiet grandeur of the French Palais Unter den Linden, an ideal site at which to revive and relive the story of a House that itself unites tradition, history, fashion, savoir-faire and master craftsmanship.

Travelling from the Maison’s beginnings in 1854 to the present day, the story is told using rare objects selected from the Louis Vuitton archive.

The exhibition architecture and scenography set the stage for visitors to embark on an entirely unique voyage. It offered never-before-granted access to historical artefacts, among them the most precious in the Louis Vuitton archives, such as trunks from the various ages in the history of travel and unique pieces crafted exclusively for celebrated figures of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It also featured specially conceived video and light installations, and works by French artisans demonstrating their virtuosity in traditional leatherworking – a skill that is as relevant in the Maison’s workshops and studios today as it was 160 years ago. Also on display in Time Capsule were the company’s very latest designs and creations, establishing a bridge between the cultural heritage of the French layetier-emballeur and the present.
